App compatibility for MacBook Neo
The 13-inch MacBook Neo is the entry 2026 Mac and the only model in this catalog built around A18 Pro instead of an M5-series chip.
What this model changes
MacBook Neo is a 13-inch macOS laptop built around Apple’s A18 Pro chip. Its fixed 8GB of unified memory and 256GB or 512GB SSD options make its hardware envelope materially different from the M5 MacBook Air.
For app compatibility, the important signal is that this is a Mac with Apple silicon. Native and Universal Mac apps run without Rosetta; Intel-only app reports use Apple’s Rosetta compatibility layer while that layer remains available.
MacBook Neo versus the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air
Neo uses A18 Pro, has 8GB of fixed unified memory, tops out at a 512GB SSD, and supports one 4K external display. The 13-inch Air uses M5, starts with 16GB, can be configured with up to 32GB and 4TB, and supports up to two external displays.

Model-specific decision guide
Check the fixed Neo limits before relying on an app badge
A Native or Rosetta result answers the processor-architecture question, but Neo has no memory upgrade and a narrow storage range. Compare an app’s published requirements with the exact hardware below before treating a green compatibility report as a complete buying answer.
- Memory stays at 8GB, so there is no higher-capacity configuration to select for software that publishes a larger requirement.
- The two USB-C ports run at different speeds: one supports USB 3 up to 10Gb/s and the other USB 2 up to 480Mb/s.
- External-display support stops at one 4K display at 60Hz, which is a separate limit from whether the app itself launches.
